EQUIPMENT

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoons or dough whisks
  • Plastic wrap or kitchen towels that are clean
  • Dutch oven, baking stone, or
  • Paper made of parchment (optional)

INGREDIENTS  

  • 1/2 cup active starter for sourdough
  • 3/4 cup lukewarm or warm water
  • 2 cups of bread flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

INSTRUCTIONS 

  • Prepare the Dough:Within a mixing bowl large enough mix the active starter with the.lukewarm water. Stir until the starter has dissolved in the liquid.The bread flour, salt and the dough into the bowl. Use a wooden spoon or the dough whisk until you get a shaggy dough.
  • Knead the Dough:Place the dough on an area that is lightly floured. The dough must be kneaded for around 10 minutes.or until soft and elastic.
  • First Rise:Return the dough back to the bowl for mixing. Wrap the mixing bowl in an unclean kitchen cloth or some plastic wrap.Let the dough sit at the room temperature for four to six hours or until it doubles in size. The timeframe can vary in accordance with the temperature and humidity of your starter sourdough.
  • Shape the Dough:After the initial rise, take the dough out of the air and form it into a round loaf.Put the dough in a shaped shape on newspaper, parchment, or a lightly sprayed surface. Then cover it with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel and let it sit for approximately 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the Oven:While the dough rests, preheat the oven to 450°F (230 °C). Place a Dutch oven or baking stone in the oven, let it heat up, and cook the dough.
  • Bake the Bread:After the dough has rested and cooled, carefully transfer it into the ready-to-use Dutch oven or baked stone.Cut the uppermost part of the dough using an abrasive knife or blade to allow expansion in baking.The Dutch oven with the lid or use an upside-down baking dish to place the the baking stone.Bake the bread in a covered pan for 20 minutes. Then remove the lid and bake for another 20 to 25 minutes until it has turned golden brown and makes a hollow sound when you tap it on the bottom.
  • Cool and Enjoy:Take the bread out of the oven and cool on an uncooked wire rack for at least one hour before cutting and serving. Enjoy freshly baked bread sourdough!
