Hamburger Steaks with Onion Gravy

Burger Patties with Caramelized Onion Relish 🍽️🧅

Ingredients:

For the Burger Patties:

1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup panko crumbs
1 egg
1/4 cup finely chopped scallions
2 tablespoons sauce Worcestershire
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion salt
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons cooking oil (for frying)
For the Caramelized Onion Relish:

1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 teaspoon sauce Worcestershire
Salt and pepper to taste
Chopped fresh parsley, optional (for garnish)
Directions:

Prepare the Burger Patties:

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, panko crumbs, egg, scallions, sauce Worcestershire, garlic powder, onion salt, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
Form the mixture into 4-5 round patties.
Cook the Patties:

Heat the cooking oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the patties to the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
Prepare the Caramelized Onion Relish:

In the same skillet, add the butter and sliced onions. Cook over medium heat until the onions are tender and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes.
Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir to coat evenly. Cook for 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
Gradually whisk in the beef broth and sauce Worcestershire, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Continue cooking until the relish thickens, about 3-4 minutes.
Season the relish with salt and pepper to taste.
Combine and Serve:

Return the burger patties to the skillet, spooning some of the relish and onions over the top.
Let them simmer in the relish for 2-3 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired, and serve hot.
