Ingredients:

For the Dough:

2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
3 tbsp granulated sugar
½ tsp salt
½ cup warm water (110°F)
1 large egg
¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
For the Filling:

1/2 cup softened cream cheese
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 cup fresh rhubarb, chopped
2 tbsp ground cinnamon
2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
For the Glaze:

1 cup powdered sugar
2 tbsp softened cream cheese
1 tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
Fresh rhubarb for garnish (optional)
Instructions:

Prepare the Dough:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Incorporate the active dry yeast into the mixture.
Pour in the warm water, melted butter, and add the egg. Mix until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for approximately 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover it, and allow it to rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Prepare the Filling:

In a separate bowl, blend the softened cream cheese and sugar until the mixture is smooth.
On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a large rectangle (approximately 12×8 inches). Evenly spread the cream cheese mixture across the surface of the dough.
Sprinkle the chopped rhubarb and ground cinnamon evenly over the cream cheese layer.
Form the Buns:

Starting from the longer edge, roll the dough tightly into a log shape. Cut the log into 9-12 equal pieces.
Place the buns in a greased baking dish. Cover them and let rise for an additional 30 minutes.
Bake the Buns:

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.
Make the Glaze:

While the buns are baking, whisk together the powdered sugar, softened cream cheese, milk, and vanilla extract until the glaze is smooth.
Finish and Serve:

Once the buns are baked, remove them from the oven and drizzle the cream cheese glaze over the warm buns. If desired, garnish with fresh rhubarb.
