Deep Hamburger Sausage & Pepperoni Pie
A hearty deep-dish pizza pie combining savory meats, gooey cheese, and a crispy crust for a flavor explosion.
Ingredients
For the Crust
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) instant yeast
- ¾ cup warm water (110°F)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
For the Filling
- 1 pound ground beef
- ½ pound Italian sausage can use turkey sausage for a lighter option
- ½ cup pepperoni slices
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup diced bell peppers (red, green, or yellow) for a burst of color
- 1 cup marinara sauce store-bought or homemade
Instructions
Preparation
- In a bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a larger bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Let the dough rise in a warm area for 15-20 minutes.
Cooking the Meat
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in the bell peppers and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until slightly softened.
Assembling the Pie
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Roll out the dough into a circle large enough to fit your pie pan, leaving some overhang for a crust.
- Place the dough in the pie pan and layer the meat mixture, followed by the marinara sauce, mozzarella, Parmesan, and pepperoni.
Baking
- Fold the overhanging dough over the filling to create a sealed crust.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
