For the Sauce and Pasta

  • 2 cups marinara sauce Homemade is best; consider a low-sodium variety.

For the Cheese

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage. Once cooked, drain any excess fat.
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking until the onion is translucent (about 5 minutes).
  • Stir in the marinara sauce, cooked pasta, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix everything evenly.

Assembly

  • In a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, layer half of the pasta mixture, then half of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Repeat to create a second layer.

Baking

  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and add the pepperoni on top. Bake uncovered for an additional 20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Cooling and Serving

  • Let the casserole cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve with a side salad dressed in light vinaigrette or garlic bread. For extra heat, offer crushed red pepper flakes or chili oil.
