INGREDIENTS  

  • 2 1/4 and 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon chopped cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground Nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened butter softened
  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 cup of molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

INSTRUCTIONS 

  • Within a bowl, mix all-purpose flour, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground cloves, ground nutmeg, baking soda, and salt until thoroughly blended. Set aside.
  • In an additional mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with brown sugar with an electric mixer until fluffy and light.
  • Mix in the molasses, egg, vanilla extract, and egg until well-mixed and smooth.
  • Add all dry ingredients to the wet ones and mix until the dough is formed.
  • If your dough seems sticky If it is too sticky, wrap it with plastic wrap and then chill it in the fridge for 30 minutes to 1 hour until it’s firm enough for rolling out.
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and line your baking tray with parchment or a silicone baking mat.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough until it is about 1/4 inch in thickness. Cut the dough using cookie cutters out shapes or employ a kitchen knife and cut it into rectangles or squares.
  • The cut-out cookies should be placed on the baking sheet you’ve prepared, spaced about 1 inch apart.
  • Bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes to ensure the edges are firm and slightly golden.
  • After baking, remove them from the oven. Let them sit on the cooling sheet for five minutes before moving them onto an airtight cooling rack on wire to completely cool.
  • Decorate the cookies after cooling them with icing, or serve them as is.
